Police investigate assault at Forest Glade Park

Windsor police are investigating a report of two people being assaulted in the city’s Forest Glade Park.

Though this is the second reported assault in the park in recent months, residents interviewed Friday say they’re not overly concerned. But upgrades to improve security, like better lighting, are in the works.

Windsor police confirmed Friday they are investigating an assault from Sept. 10 involving two young people in Forest Glade Park. The victims were allegedly confronted by a group of 10 to 12 people and sprayed with what is believed to be pepper spray.

The father of the alleged teen victim declined to speak with the Star about the family’s experience. Police said there were no injuries, though victims were affected by the pepper spray.

But the incident — the second reported instance of assault at the park in the last four months — has left some in the community concerned. Others said these are isolated incidents in an otherwise quiet neighborhood.

In a community social media group, some parents decried “violence and bullying,” adding their kids were wary of using the park. But people in and around the park on Friday said while the reports are concerning, they are isolated incidents in an otherwise quiet neighborhood

“We’ve had a few similar situations in the area,” said Khristjan Bryant, 20. “In the last few years, as kids start to get older, getting into high school, wanting to be cool.”

Bryant said he wondered about two Windsor police vehicles stationed near the skate park Friday afternoon but otherwise hadn’t heard about the alleged assault.

Jeewen Gill, Windsor city councillor for Ward 7 which includes Forest Glade Park, said he’s heard worries about the park lately.
