Open Streets Windsor 2022 Brings 8 Kilometres
of Wellness, Togetherness and Fun!

Be part of something amazing!

Open Streets Windsor returns this September to connect our diverse neighbourhoods and people across the community. The popular outdoor event returns to the route previously enjoyed in 2019 and takes place Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We invite you to get out onto city streets to walk, cycle, dance, or ride along the route,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “This is an opportunity to participate in a variety of fitness and wellness activities, enjoy our arts and culture offerings, meet business owners, explore neighbourhoods, and engage with folks who lead some impactful organizations in our community. Open Streets Windsor creates an unforgettable, participatory, inclusive way to celebrate some of the amazing people and places in and across our community!”

Since 2016, thousands have witnessed this free community event, which involves an eight-kilometre route that spans numerous neighbourhoods from the west end of the city to the east temporarily closed to cars. This year’s route runs along Sandwich Street, Riverside Drive West, University Avenue West, Wyandotte Street East and Drouillard Road. Visit OpenStreetsWindsor.ca for details on this year’s path.

“Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island has always invited residents and visitors to venture outside and explore Windsor Essex – to discover the natural beauty, incredible hospitality and immersive experiences we have to offer,” said Gordon Orr, CEO Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “And Open Streets Windsor certainly provides a chance to enjoy all of these deliverables in just one day.”

Event organizers are looking for organizations and businesses to contribute ideas and activities at hubs along the event route as community partners.

Community Partners

In addition to providing a space for people to walk, cycle, roller blade, etc. along the route, hubs are designated for community partners, including individuals, businesses and organizations, to carry out activities that promote health, physical activity, arts and culture. Activities must be free and encourage participation from people of all ages and abilities.

If you would like to become a community partner, the Community Partner Application Form is available until September 1, 2022.

Adopt-a-Barricade

We have the barricade – you have the workforce! We are seeking groups of volunteers through community organizations, service clubs, or business that would supply groups of volunteers to assist in keeping the route secure. Must be 18 years of age or older. Please email openstreets@citywindsor.ca for further details, or visit the Open Streets Volunteer Portal to sign up.
