Municipal Staff Vaccination Shows Strong Improvement
The percentage of City of Windsor staff confirming vaccination status or an approved accommodation has risen from 78% last week to about 91% as of Monday, November 15, 2021. Unfortunately, some services will still be disrupted, and at this point, it is clear that Transit Windsor service needs to be adjusted.
The staffing challenges at Transit will lead to service disruptions this week due to the significant number of operations and maintenance staff deemed to be non-compliant with the City of Windsor’s vaccination policy, and this will force the service to move from its current full service to an enhanced Saturday service model effective November 21, 2021.
“Service will continue, but there will be fewer busses in rotation, and unfortunately delays should be expected,” says Executive Director Tyson Cragg. “This will not apply to the school extra busses; those will remain a priority. We apologize for any impacts and thank residents and riders for their understanding.”
Riders are urged to check transitwindsor.ca for updates and use the Transit App for real-time arrival information. If you have questions, you can call 519-944-4111.
As of today, November 15, 2021, mandatory proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required of all employees, council members, contractors and volunteers working for the City who do not have an exemption. About 7% (under 200 staff) have not yet disclosed their vaccination status to the City of Windsor’s Human Resources department.
Any further need for temporary service modifications with Transit or elsewhere within the corporation will continue to be communicated.
The mass vaccination site in Devonshire Mall is open Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome. Pharmacy and other clinic options remain as well, and more information is available at www.WEVax.ca or by contacting the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
