Citizen Citation Awards
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will present citizen citation awards to two heroic individuals this week.
Dave Murdoch directly assisted in saving the life of a person trapped in a smoke-filled elevator on November 12, 2019, during a major fire in a downtown high-rise apartment building (Westcourt Place). Dave showed great courage and bravery to climb 22 flights of stairs to the roof, don a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) pack without any formal training, and enter a smoke-filled elevator control room to bring the trapped person to safety and save his life.
As well…
On July 26, 2021, James Johnson entered a smoke-filled apartment unit in his building and helped rescue one occupant to safety. After this selfless act, James then provided first-arriving fire crews with critical information that assisted them in their fire ground tactical decisions, which became critical in saving two lives from an apartment fire and successfully extinguishing the fire with no further injuries.
